Something that is against my philosophy is going back and re-doing past creations. I’ve done it the one time, why waste time rehashing when new and exciting work can be done instead?
In this case, i’m working on putting together a portfolio book to use for upcoming jobs, when it came to represent Farewell Reginald in there, i found that the existing cover didnt do the insides justice. I have a habit of making hasty covers that never represent the content. Its not a good way to set the precedent. I’m really happy with this, for those who bought the comic they will know that this is the exact cover, but instead of it being a total pencil and texture fest, its now a full on rendering.
I have a feeling i’m going to be making a habit of redoing old work for the next period.

God dammit i hate illustrator. Any tips guys? the program really isnt intuitive at all.
This is my first attempt, so be gentle! i’m gonna try and produce a new illustrator image every day so that i hopefully become efficient this time next month.

I did not intend to take this any further than just a quick sketch but i got immersed into the piece. I enjoy rendering skin, especially the little details like the blemishes across the cheeks and how the skin changes colour where one shaves.
